Run by business support services provider UMi, the awards garnered over 150 nominations from companies across Scotland the last time it was run before the coronavirus pandemic.

With headline sponsors HSBC working alongside strategic partners Scottish Government and Scotland House London, the index will see businesses recognised in 12 categories ranging from micro and macro exporters to e-commerce, food and drink and emerging markets.

Previous winners have included Bridge of Weir Leather, Pure Malt Products, Teknek UK and Trtl.

The 2022 Scottish Export Index will have an underlying focus on sustainability, with a new dedicated award category for ‘Net Zero Exporter’ being introduced, aimed at companies exporting goods and services that meet the goal of a net zero economy.

Judges will recognise businesses that can demonstrate themselves as responsible exporters who take action to reduce the carbon footprint of their export sales.

With the Scottish Government looking to raise exports to 25% of the country’s GDP – an increase of £25bn by 2029,[2]the judging panel will also be on the lookout for businesses that have demonstrated impressive growth in new markets and a bold willingness to invest in their future growth.

We’re delighted to finally be launching this year’s Scottish Export Index, which will achieve that and much more.

“This year, the Index will highlight those businesses that are shaping the future of the exporting landscape, not just in Scotland but on a global scale.”

“The Index is a reminder of the importance of recognising and celebrating successes in export growth. Through innovation and resilience businesses are supporting their economic recovery and Scotland’s economic future.

“I would like to congratulate all those nominated and wish them the best of luck in the Index and in their future.”

All nominations will close in April 2023 with judging taking place the following month.
