In a charity fundraising effort, a team from Scottish Friendly has triumphed in the National Three Peaks Challenge, which involved conquering the highest mountains in Scotland, England, and Wales in under twenty-four hours.

The team, including Alan Rankine, Brian Tonner, Colin Sergeant, Jason Arnstein, Kate Barr, Kyle West, Mhairi Donaldson, and Rachael Smith, completed the gruelling route from their Glasgow offices, ascending a total of 3064 metres over 23 miles and driving a staggering 462 miles, finishing with a mere 12 minutes to spare.

Scottish Friendly’s CEO, Stephen McGee, served as the team’s dedicated driver during the challenge. The group first climbed Ben Nevis in Scotland (1345m), followed by Scafell Pike in England (978m) and finally, in the cover of darkness, scaled Snowdon in Wales (1085m).

The team successfully raised over £7,000 through their efforts. This sum was generously matched by Scottish Friendly, leading to a total donation of £14,000 to their charity partner, Action for Children. This marked the first time that a team from the company undertook such a feat.

Mr McGee said: “We are all extremely proud of our colleagues who successfully completed this challenge and raised such an amazing contribution to our charity partner, Action for Children. We would like to thank everyone who has donated to such a worthwhile cause.

“Our colleagues wanted to support a great cause to those children who need it most in these difficult times and we hope that the funds raised will aid Action for Children in continuing the incredible work they continue to do for those Scottish households most in need.”

Fiona Steel, Action for Children national director for Scotland, commented: “We are extremely grateful to the support from Scottish Friendly and the colleagues who undertook this challenge, raising a significant amount of money that will go a long way to helping vulnerable children across Scotland.

“The last few years have been incredibly hard on many families across Scotland and, unfortunately, 2023 is going to continue to be a challenging period for many.

“We will continue to support children, young people and families and this support and donation will aid Action for Children in doing this.”
