Stirling’s Colessio enjoys an almost two-fold increase in profits over eight months
Hotel Colessio
Hotel Colessio in Stirling has reported an almost two-fold increase in profits just eight months after bringing in Artemis Hotels Management.
Recognising the need for a refreshed direction and stronger operational leadership, the hotel’s owners appointed Artemis Hotels to steer the property into its next phase. The 39-bedroom hotel, which had faced a prolonged post-pandemic downturn, has since undergone a decisive transformation under the guidance of Chris Charalambous and general manager Lee Norris.
“Our customers, our team, and our historic property have been at the centre of every decision we’ve made. We set ambitious targets, worked collectively, and we’re proud to see profits reflect the work we’ve put in,” said Mr Norris.
The turnaround centred on operational efficiency, cost control, and reconnecting the hotel with the local community through events and partnerships. A key factor in the recovery was a bold shift in business model, repositioning Colessio as a leading premium stay option within the region.
“The first major step was simplifying our identity to ‘Colessio’,” said Mr Norris. “That clarity underpins every decision we make, from operations to the guest experience. By repositioning the hotel, we’ve aligned our offering around quality, locally sourced produce, and a premium bar experience, creating a stronger, more commercially focused operation.”
Reflecting the simplification of the name, Colessio is undergoing a full rebrand to align the property’s identity with its refined operating model. The visual identity, including a refreshed logo, will be unveiled in early 2026 as part of a wider ongoing renovation programme encompassing guest bedrooms and public areas.
The renewed energy extends beyond branding to the property’s operational ethos. Colessio has redefined its supply chain, sourcing produce locally wherever possible and joining the Forth Valley Five initiative, a regional sustainability partnership that ensures key menu items, including meats, breakfast sausages, and honey, are procured directly from within the Forth Valley. This commitment not only supports local producers but strengthens the hotel’s positioning as a responsible, community-rooted business.
Within the guest experience, Artemis Hotels has introduced premium touches that elevate value while promoting sustainability. Guest rooms now feature high-end coffee machines and organic Clipper teas, with complimentary still and sparkling water provided in place of single-use plastics. Toiletries have been upgraded to the luxury Duck Island brand, with the Paradise fragrance selected for its contemporary, unisex appeal, all reflecting the hotel’s commitment to environmentally responsible practices without compromising quality or guest comfort.
Revenue-driving elements remain integral to the operation. The hotel continues to serve its popular Afternoon Tea offering, and the bar has been repositioned to highlight Colessio’s strength in premium spirits, including a curated whisky library featuring over 40 Scottish malts, presented through bespoke tasting flights aimed at both residents and local visitors.
Colessio has strengthened its social impact initiatives, actively supporting the Hospitality Benevolent Fund and contributing to industry efforts that provide support and relief to hospitality professionals in need.
For Mr Norris, one of the most rewarding aspects of the transformation has been developing and empowering his team. The hotel now employs a team of 21, many of whom have been with the business for several years and has built a strong culture of internal progression. Notably, Lynsey McKenna has advanced from a front-of-house role to Operations Manager, reflecting the company’s commitment to professional growth and long-term career development within the property.
Reinvigorating Colessio’s connection to Stirling has also been central to Mr Norris’ vision. The property has become an active civic participant, re-establishing its presence within the local community through strategic collaborations and event participation. Colessio was a founding supporter of Pride Stirling and became one of the first businesses to commit to its second year and has already signed on for year three. The business also works closely with Historic Stirling and BID Stirling to support local initiatives, heritage events, and tourism development.
Looking ahead, Artemis Hotels Management and the Colessio team are focused on sustaining the momentum built throughout 2025 and continuing to refine the property’s operations. With profitability restored and community relationships re-established, the hotel is well positioned for a strong 2026.
Chris Charalambous, of Artemis Hotels Management, said: “Colessio’s transformation is a clear example of what can be achieved when commercial focus, local knowledge, and people-led leadership come together.
“Lee and his team have delivered an outstanding turnaround that reflects both operational discipline and genuine hospitality. At Artemis, our goal is to unlock the potential of independent properties like Colessio, ensuring they remain profitable, sustainable, and become valuable contributors to their local economies.”
