Thorntons’ Dundee sports charity dinner returns after pandemic hiatus

The 2019 Sports Challenge Dinner

Thorntons has announced the return of its Dundee charity event, Sports Challenge Dinner, after a three-year break.

Over the past six years, £200,000 has been raised for children’s charities across Scotland and organisers hope to generate a further £50,000 this year.

The event combines entertainment and team building with fundraising. It will return to Apex City Quay Hotel on Thursday 18 May 2023.

Teams will be tested on their sporting knowledge and observational skills in the question of sport style quiz hosted by sporting legends, Andy Nicol and Alan McInally. With round favourites like ‘what happens next’ and the ‘cryptic picture board’, teams will compete to lift the trophy and be crowned Sports Challenge champions — all while raising money for Scottish children’s charities.

This year the money raised will be split between two Scottish children’s charities, namely The Archie Foundation and Childrens Aid Scotland.

Colin Graham of Thorntons said: “The Sports Challenge Dinner is one of our calendar highlights and to have it return following a three-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic makes the event even more special.

“We will be joined by some recognisable faces in Scottish sports including hosts, rugby legend Andy Nicol and former player and Sky Sports pundit Alan McInally.

“This year we are hoping to break the quarter of a million pounds mark which would be an incredible achievement and provide some much needed funding to charities across our city.”
