Trusted finance specialist joins Bield leadership team
Barry Allan
A highly experienced finance professional has joined Bield as director of finance and business services.
Barry Allan takes on a wide-ranging strategic leadership role spanning finance, performance, governance and business planning as the organisation continues its ambitious journey to enhance independent living for thousands of older people across Scotland.
With more than 15 years’ experience in the housing sector, Barry’s career spans accountancy and audit through to senior leadership roles. Most recently, he served as interim CEO at Thenue Housing Association, where he was previously director of finance, IT and resources.
Barry steps into this key leadership role at Bield during a period of growth and innovation, as the organisation continues delivering on its Independent Living Approach (ILA), focused on co-designed services, digital innovation, and sustainability.
Originally from Fife, where he qualified in accountancy at Fife College, Barry began his career in private practice before moving into social housing in 2011. He has held senior finance roles at Muirhouse Housing Association and served as Interim CEO, gaining a broad perspective on governance, leadership and customer-focused service delivery.
Bield’s chief executive, Debbie Collins, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Barry to our leadership team. His expertise, values, and passion for social housing will be key in strengthening our financial governance while ensuring we continue to invest in homes, services, and innovations that help older people live well and independently.
“Barry brings both insight and energy to the role, and I’m confident he will play a central part in driving Bield’s vision forward across Scotland.”
Barry’s appointment comes as Bield progresses an ambitious strategic plan designed to put customers at the heart of decision-making, deliver innovative services, and ensure sustainability across the organisation.
Speaking on his new role, Barry said: “I’m excited to join Bield at such an important time. Finance is about more than numbers - it’s about making sure we can deliver real, lasting impact for the people we serve. Bield’s commitment to independent living, innovation, and a people-first approach really resonated with me. I look forward to working with colleagues to ensure our resources are aligned with our purpose and continue to create value for our tenants and customers.”
Barry’s experience in housing finance, leadership, and corporate services - combined with his early career in external audit - gives him a strong foundation to oversee Bield’s finance team from Edinburgh and contribute to the wider executive management team. His focus is on delivering robust financial stewardship while supporting innovation that enhances independent living for older people across Scotland.
Barry added: “My goal is to provide not only financial assurance, but also insight and flexibility that help Bield respond to a changing environment while staying true to its mission. When finance is aligned with purpose, we can make a tangible difference in people’s lives, and that’s what excites me most about this opportunity.”
