Use of banking apps soars

British_Bankers_AssociationThe British Bankers Association has reported that the use of internet banking apps – on phones or tablets- increased from 7 million logins a day in 2014 to 11m last year.

The number of times customers used such apps in 2015 hit a huge 4bn times.

The British Bankers Association said: “Customers love the new technology that is allowing us to bank round the clock,” said Anthony Browne, the BBA’s chief executive.

“You can set up standing orders while standing in the queue for the bus and check your balance while checking in at the airport.”

The research found that customers are more likely to use a computer rather than an app to make payments through ‘online banking.’

In 2015 417m payments were made over the internet, whereas only 374m payments were made through an app.

This could be partly attributed to having to log into certain bank’s websites to make a payment, however new app-based banks are now making it easier to carry out a whole range of transactions whilst on the go.
