VITA launches virtual accountancy club aimed at cascading information and raising standards across the profession

VAT and indirect tax advisor (VITA) has accelerated its information and support campaign for the accountancy profession with a new initiative aimed at upskilling the sector and raising awareness of the complexities of one of the UK’s most important taxes.
The Glasgow-based firm has launched a new source called VITA Pulse, an easy-to-understand guide to the firm’s commitment to sharing its deep technical expertise in VAT, one of the largest sources of UK government revenue, in a practical and accessible way.
The move by one of the VAT advisory firm recognises that while VAT raises around £180 billion annually and accounts for around 14% to 17% of total tax receipts, many of the UK’s 40,000 VAT-registered accounting businesses have no specialist expertise.
The introduction of the new guide follows VITA’s widely acclaimed CBAM Compass, an explainer on the UK’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, which explores the thinking behind the soon-to-be-introduced environmental levy.
VITA partner Greg McNally, who launched the business in 2019, said: “Following the success of the CBAM Compass, we have been keen to do what we can to help build and enhance the VAT sector within the profession and highlight red-flag areas.
“The aim is to lift standards across the board, and VITA Pulse intends to create an accounting club which will help members to identify issues which could have major implications for clients and resolve them in an efficient and cost-effective way.
“Taking VAT awareness through to expert resolution is the goal. By growing our network and investing in education across the sector, we propose to support better outcomes for both professionals and their clients.”
VITA has already established a substantial portfolio of accountancy firms as clients and expects to increase it significantly, as a result of its information campaigns.
VITA Pulse is a free resource which will include LinkedIn posts, videos and an e-newsletter, with payment subscription services also available including Essential VAT Support, which provides a direct line to VITA experts and, for more complex projects, Expert VAT Guidance which offers specialist support.
The intention is that VITA Pulse will keep the generalist part of the profession informed while VITA’s wider services will ensure that professional service firms are able to safely navigate complex VAT challenges.
