The Isle of Barra Distillers have agreed a six-figure deal with Waitrose & Partners to stock and sell their ‘Atlantic Gin’ in 120 stores across the UK.

The Outer Hebrides spirit will initially be available in 120 stores, but the deal may expand to other locations based on customer feedback and demand.

The family-run distillery, which was established in 2017, is excited about this partnership as it will create new jobs for the company. The deal came about after the distillery reached out to Waitrose & Partners.

The firm has also invested in a new £140,000 state-of-the-art bottling line with the help of Highlands & Islands Enterprise, which will increase production capacity to 1,500 bottles per hour.

Additionally, the distillery recently released a custom-designed bottle made of 78% recycled glass that gives “character” to the gin and weighs 17% less than the previous one. Furthermore, the distance from the bottle supplier to the distillery has been reduced to 406 miles which is 382 miles less than before.

Michael Morrison, co-founder and managing director of Isle of Barra Distillers, told The Press and Journal: “To say we are delighted is an understatement. This is a huge moment for our team.

“It has been a goal of ours from day one to have our story available to as many people as possible and now, with the launch of our Barra Atlantic Gin into Waitrose & Partners stores across the UK, this means that more people will learn about our family distillery which is really special.

“This move also not only creates more roles within our distillery team but it also safeguards our current roles and that is key to our fragile islands economy.”
