Wbg targets 30% tax fee growth with VAT launch and wider reach
Catherine McManus – Head of tax at Wbg
Wbg expects a 30% rise in fee income from its tax offering, driven by geographical expansion and the launch of a specialist VAT advisory service.
The firm’s tax service line has grown consistently by 10 to 15% per annum in recent years, prompting an expansion of its team from one partner to three. Head of tax Catherine McManus is now joined by Shehzad Ashaq, recently promoted to corporate tax partner, and Keith Miller, who has been recruited as head of indirect tax.
Ms McManus attributed much of the growth to private equity backing from N4 Partners, the majority shareholder of Wbg.
“Thanks to the private equity investment by N4 Partners… we have been able to expand into new markets through tapping into N4’s broader eco-system and secure significant growth for our tax offering geographically and through the addition of specialist expertise,” she said.
The firm now has a presence in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Ayrshire, Lanarkshire, Manchester and Dublin, reflecting clients’ increasingly regional, national and international operations.
Mr Miller brings specialist expertise in land and property transactions, parking services, online transactions, financial services including M&A VAT, and cross-border transactions.
Ms McManus said his experience in complex VAT and indirect tax issues strengthens the firm’s capabilities, while Mr Ashaq’s promotion gives clients greater access to combined corporate and personal tax planning, drawing on his work advising entrepreneurs and the SME market.
Ms McManus added: “Further investment in specialist services is planned to support this already solid foundation to enable Wbg to continue to support ambitious clients in competitive markets, wherever they are located, so that businesses and individuals can flourish and focus on their own growth and development plans.”
