Scottish accountancy firm Wbg has advised Glasgow-headquartered Hero Brands on its investment deal with US based private equity firm True to support the UK and international growth of its quick service restaurant (QSR) operation German Doner Kebab (GDK).

True’s multi-million-pound investment will assist GDK in its mission to redefine the kebab experience and rollout as the leading Middle Eastern QSR brand in the UK and accelerate growth across existing and new markets globally.

Since launching in the UK a decade ago, GDK has rapidly expanded to over 145 UK locations and 170 globally under Hero Brands, its majority investor since 2016.

Hero Brands will remain a key partner as GDK continues its growth. The brand aims to redefine the kebab experience with a Gen-Z focus, blending fresh, made-to-order food with music, sport, and pop culture.

Wbg associate partner Shehzad Ashaq, who advised Athif Sarwar, executive chair of Hero Brands, on the deal, said: “We are delighted to have delivered a range of specialist corporate finance and tax advice to GDK to help secure this significant investment that will greatly assist the brand to reach its true global potential.”

This deal builds on Wbg’s longstanding relationship as trusted advisors to Hero Brands and associated businesses.

Mr Sarwar added: “The GDK movement has been blessed with monumental growth. We have built an incredible team at GDK focused on delivering for our partners, franchisees and guests, and we are looking forward to the next phase of the GDK journey with True.

“We thank Shehzad and Wbg for its invaluable advice and assistance in helping bring this strategic partnership to fruition.”
