The pier was bombarded with calls from people charged over £2,000 after spending on credit and debit cards.

Worldpay has taken full responsibility for the error and has promised to repay all of the customers, The Daily Telegraph reports.

Brighton Pier said it was told by the company that there was “no excuse for the fact that your customers were debited incorrectly”.

A woman charged £2,104.18 for her visit, said: “When I read the text from the bank telling me my account was overdrawn I was shocked.”
