Edinburgh-based digital wallet and payments platform Zumo has appointed Liam Birch as the firm’s new senior product owner.

Mr Birch joins the Zumo team at a time of massive growth in the crypto space. He will be instrumental in leveraging the brand’s continued success as it moves past 50,000 users and launches the Zumo Convertible debit card.

Reporting to chief product officer Paul Roach, Mr Birch joins Zumo after spending two successful years working in Berlin as senior product manager at Bitwala, in charge of trading. His experience will support Zumo’s mission to make crypto accessible to all.

Speaking about his decision to join Zumo, Mr Birch said: “I’m truly excited to be joining Zumo at a time of such rapid change and growth. I am looking forward to further contributing to the mass retail adoption of cryptocurrency in the UK and across the world.

“I want cryptocurrency to stop being thought of as a speculative investment, but instead an important part of any long-term investment portfolio. I would like to assist in educating our users on the benefits and the simplicity of trading cryptocurrency, so that they can enjoy the benefits that more and more people around the world are discovering every day.

“In comparison to traditional finance, crypto is still in its infancy. I’m excited to be part of it and look forward to seeing digital currencies grow and adapt. There will definitely be regulatory hurdles for the industry to overcome in the future, but I think cryptocurrency has shown that it is here to stay and it will be interesting to see when central banks begin to adopt cryptocurrencies.”

Mr Roach added: “This year has already been a historic one for Bitcoin and the wider crypto industry. In 2021, Zumo will be launching new products and features as well as making exciting new announcements. Liam will be instrumental in delivering all of these.”
