Aberdeen Deloitte boss vows growth as firm trims UK workforce

The head of Deloitte’s Aberdeen office, Hazel Gray, remains confident in the city’s future, even as the Big Four firm proceeds with a review of its UK internal services teams that will lead to job cuts.
While Deloitte has not disclosed the exact number of roles affected in Aberdeen, describing it as an “extremely small number”, Ms Gray points to the strength of the local energy sector and ongoing investment in the north-east as reasons for a positive outlook. The firm currently employs nearly 150 people in the city, including 14 new recruits who have joined in the past fortnight.
“It’s really important to me that we have a growing and thriving office here,” Ms Gray told The Press & Journal, who became the office senior partner in June. “We’ve got a really strong pipeline of senior leaders coming through.”
Her appointment coincided with the firm’s relocation to a new city-centre office in the Silver Fin building on Union Street, a move she believes has breathed new life into the team. “It’s great that Deloitte is choosing to invest in the city; we’re so strong in the energy sector, I think that’s absolutely the right thing to do,” she added.
Ms Gray also emphasised her commitment to developing new talent, stating her desire to support graduates and young people to “see that there is a future in this industry”.
Across the UK, Deloitte employs 24,000 people and has stated it is looking to redeploy some of the staff impacted by the review into other roles within the business.
