Aberdeen Standard Investments (ASI) has appointed Manuela Fumarola as ESG manager to its private markets and real estate team.

In her role, Ms Fumarola is responsible for developing, embedding and overseeing an ESG strategy for private markets investments, including private equity, infrastructure and private lending assets. She will report to Dan Grandage, head of ESG for private markets and real estate and will work closely with the existing Private Markets ESG team and the investment teams to provide insight on ESG trends, manager selection, and client ESG reporting activities.

Ms Fumarola joins ASI from M&G Investments where she worked as private equity associate and led on the integration of ESG into the investment process.

Neil Slater, global head of real estate and deputy head of private markets, said: “This is a key strategic area for our organisation and embedding a highly talented ESG team is critical for large private market players such as ASI. As demand grows for sustainable investment products and solutions within private markets and real estate, Manuela will be a fantastic addition to our team as we work to further consolidate our ESG offering.

“Manuela has demonstrated some impressive work with sound credentials and I’m confident she’ll play a pivotal role in supporting our team’s ESG strategy, and subsequently, our clients with their sustainable investing requirements.

“Together with the recent announcement of our net-zero carbon framework for real estate, this hire demonstrates our commitment to maintain and sustain an embedded ESG approach within our private markets investment process.”

Manuela Fumarola commented: “This a great opportunity for me to draw on my ESG expertise in private markets and support ASI with its sustainable investing approach. I’m looking forward to working closely with the team to build a market-leading ESG strategy for ASI’s private markets function.”
