Caledonian Leisure reports record £63m turnover for 2024

Holiday specialist Caledonian Leisure has posted annual turnover of over £63 million for 2024, marking a 15% increase from the previous year’s £55m.

The company, which operates the Caledonian Travel and UKBreakaways brands, has established its position as a provider of coach-inclusive and self-drive holidays in the UK since its launch in June 2021.

Managing director Graham Rogers said: “We are delighted to report another year of exceptional growth across the business. We continue to experience record sales levels, and our sustained growth once again highlights the strong appetite for our short breaks and holidays which are renowned for offering exceptional choice, service and value.

“As well as further developing our product portfolio we’ve made significant investments in expanding the Caledonian Hotel Collection and upgrading our coach fleet, all of which underline our commitment to delivering the best holiday experience for our customers and setting new industry standards.”

The Caledonian Hotel Collection now features five hotels following investor-led acquisitions of The Caledonian New Southlands in Scarborough and, more recently, The Caledonian Thistle Hotel in the picturesque town of Callander, known as the “Gateway to the Highlands”.

The new hotels join The Caledonian Claymore Hotel in Arrochar, The Caledonian Torbay Hotel in Torquay and The Caledonian Tower Hotel in Blackpool in the portfolio, giving the group a strong presence and year-round offering in some of its best-selling UK holiday destinations.

Earlier this year, the company also took steps to upgrade its ‘Pride of Lions’ fleet of coaches, adding 10 brand new ‘25 plate state of the art Temsa touring coaches, including a special ‘one off’ blue coach featuring the company’s iconic ‘Red Lion’ emblazoned on a striking blue livery. Its fleet now features 85 high-specification and environmentally friendly vehicles.

The company continues to enjoy a strong social media presence with an active social media community of over 250,000 people and has achieved an ‘Excellent’ rating on TrustPilot from over 27,000 reviews. An independent Facebook Fan Group has grown to nearly 40,000 members, and the company actively engage with the group at a senior level.

Its ongoing commitment to customer satisfaction was recognised at the 2024 British Travel Awards – known as the Oscars of the Travel Industry voted for by the public - with Caledonian Travel named ‘Best Large Travel Company for Coach Holidays’ and ‘Best Large Company for UK Touring/Coach Holidays’, while UKBreakaways scooped the ‘Best Travel Company for UK Breaks’ accolade.

Commercial director Martin Lock said: “Winning three BTA Awards was a great achievement for the business and recognition for the hard work and dedication of our in-house team, drivers and network of agents who collectively are the driving force behind our success. The opinion of our customers is what matters most, so for them to vote for us as the best in the business was very special.”

More recently, the company has also been nominated for a ‘Best Workplaces in Travel 2025’ award, which identifies and celebrates the best companies to work for across the travel industry following a comprehensive employee engagement survey.

As Caledonian’s workforce continues to expand, the company has invested in new HR training and support system, plus a new customer service platform to support its team.

Caledonian Travel has continued to grow its product portfolio across the UK, Ireland & Europe with significant investment made in new entertainment and events packages while the company has successfully launched a new “Magic of Steam” range, a collection of breaks with which include memorable train journeys and experiences by steam.

Finance director David McDonald added: “We’ve delivered record results this year – a clear indication that our growth strategy is delivering value.

“We remain focused on building a business that is robust, sustainable and agile. We are excited about the opportunities ahead and are committed to doing what’s right for our customers, our team, and our partners. With a healthy balance sheet and strong forward momentum, we look forward to 2025, and beyond.”
