CMS is hosting a free-to-attend event highlighting the growing risk of class action lawsuits facing Scotland’s food and drink (F&D) industry.

The online session will focus on the threat of class action proceedings, which were introduced in Scotland in 2020, and how they specifically impact on the nation’s £10.7 billion F&D sector.

Open to professionals within the industry, the event will present an overview on class action procedures in both Scotland and England and explore how the cases are being managed from a procedural perspective. It will also highlight specific class action risks facing the F&D sector across a range of issues including product liability, consumer claims, sustainability, and employment matters with some recent examples of cases impacting the industry.

CMS experts will then share practical tips on how companies can manage these risks by identifying issues at an early stage with advice on implementing effective strategies to mitigate the potential of claims being raised.

Leading the seminar are CMS partners and disputes resolution specialists Will Anderson and Graeme MacLeod.

Mr Anderson said: “Class action claims are a reality and are only growing in number. The risks to food producers and suppliers come in many forms, through employees, consumers or even shareholders.

“At our online event we will explore some of the key risks and how F&D operators can be proactive in mitigating the threat they present to their business.”

The free-to-attend event takes place online at 9.30 on Tuesday 30 April. Registration details can be found here.
