Continuum founder Martin Brown has announced he will retire and step down from his role as managing partner at Continuum at the end of August after more than a decade leading the firm.

Mr Brown, who has spent more than 30 years in the advice sector, founded Continuum in 2014 with a vision to create a relationship-led advice business focused on helping advisers deliver better outcomes for their clients after holding roles at Openwork and Positive Solutions.

He went on to expand the business in 2021 by setting up an office in Edinburgh’s Albany Street before selling an initial minority stake to M&G Advice in 2022, with the full buyout completed over two years.

Under his leadership, Continuum has become one of the UK’s leading independent financial advice businesses, with a strong adviser culture, trusted client relationships and more than £3 billion of assets under management and advice. Mr Brown will continue to support the business through a transition period until the end of the year.

Jim Reeve, current non-executive director and chair of Continuum, will become interim managing partner, subject to regulatory approval, while the Board recruits a permanent successor.

Mr Brown, founder and outgoing managing partner at Continuum, said: “When we founded Continuum, the ambition was to build a business centred on quality advice, exceptional adviser support and always doing the right thing for clients. Looking back, I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together. We’ve built an outstanding team, supported advisers across the UK and delivered more than a decade of sustained double-digit annual growth.

“Jim understands our culture and values, and I know Continuum is in excellent hands. I look forward to supporting the transition and seeing the business continue to succeed while I enjoy my retirement.”

Jim Reeve, incoming interim managing partner of Continuum, said: “Martin has built a fantastic business, and it has been a privilege to work alongside him and witness that journey first-hand. My focus will be on supporting our advisers, colleagues and clients while building on the strong foundations already in place. We will continue investing in our people, strengthening our proposition and supporting advisers to deliver outstanding outcomes for clients.”
