David Ross

Glasgow Credit Union has launched Finances Made Friendly, a podcast aiming to provide straightforward financial advice in a digestible format.

The programme is designed to help listeners optimise their finances, fostering financial resilience and providing money-saving guidance on various aspects including energy bills, holidays, and home improvements.

Scottish TV and radio host, Heather Suttie, will helm the 10-episode series, interviewing a diverse roster of industry heads, finance gurus, and Scottish celebrities. Guests include Anna Campbell-Jones of Scotland’s Home of the Year, Karen Musgrave of Barrhead Travel, Fergus Muirhead of The Money Doctor.

Additionally there are soundbites from renowned Scots including Kay Adams, Doug Allan, Jean Johansson, Colin McCredie, and Atta Yaqub.

David Ross, CEO of Glasgow Credit Union, revealed that the podcast was inspired by their 2023 annual member survey.

He said: “The results from our annual member survey in February 2023, which engaged nearly 10,000 members aged 16 and over across West and Central Scotland, revealed that more than three quarters of Scots are concerned about their current financial situation.

“At Glasgow Credit Union we’ve always been committed to improving the lives of our members and easing their financial worries through competitive products and educational workshops.

“However, these survey results inspired us to go the extra mile and create an easily accessible resource that openly speaks to the financial challenges we’re all facing, in the hope that we can better serve both our members and the wider community.”

With over 59,000 members benefiting from regular savings, competitive loans and mortgages, Glasgow Credit Union is a member-driven institution. Its primary goal is to enhance financial literacy and empowerment within the wider community, through education and collaborations with local organisations and employers.

Mr Ross continued: “We’re very excited to be launching this new series and that such a diverse and well respected variety of industry leaders took the time to speak to Heather to share their personal stories and offer realistic, actionable advice.

“We are acutely aware of the financial struggles facing not just our members, but people across the country and we wanted to create an engaging platform to provide a wider audience with useful insight, and inspiration for managing your finances with confidence.”

All 10 episodes of the podcast series are now available to listen to on all major podcast platforms.
