Insights Group sees profits rise 40% thanks to global growth

Dundee-based learning and personal development company Insights Group has seen its profits rise by 40% thanks to domestic and international growth.

The group saw a 29% increase in turnover to £68.9 million, according to its latest annual accounts.

The company’s pre-tax profit was £14.2m in the 12 months to the end of March this year, compared to £10m in the previous financial year.

The firm’s revenue from the UK also increased by 47% to £16.9m, in Europe it grew by 5%to £26.3m and in the rest of the world, it was up 51% to £25.7m.

Insights Group has around 600 members of staff across 15 countries and has a blue-chip client base including the likes of Microsoft, Google and Nike.

The firm’s programmes are informed by the thinking of Carl Jung, the Swiss psychiatrist who founded analytical psychology, and it offers businesses support in areas such as change management, talent development and employee engagement.

In recent years, the firm has also expanded into making mobile phone apps and providing more digital services.

Andy Lothian, the chief executive, said that growth had come “across the board” with a mix of new business wins and doing more with existing customers.

He said: “Being able to truly serve those large global clients has helped to join things up. Getting control of the local offices was important. If you have shared ownership the managers can make decisions locally rather than thinking about the interests of the global business.”

The company’s accounts also reveal that the highest-paid director’s remuneration nearly doubled to £797,366 and the dividend rose by 50% to reach over £3m.

Insights Group said that it was investing £6.7m which included installing new planning and customer management software as well as training for its own employees.

Mr Lothian also predicted that turnover in the year to the end of March would be in the region of £80m.
