Johnston Carmichael has launched a new fund for colleagues to support charitable initiatives as part of the celebrations ahead of its 90th anniversary this year.

The JC Impact Fund is an internal programme enabling colleagues to apply for funding to deliver charitable or community initiatives that matter to them. Since launch, the fund has supported a mix of colleague fundraising challenges and community projects close to their hearts.

The first good cause backed by the firm supported business advisory senior manager Derek Souter, from their Dundee office, who carried out a charity skydive for his late colleague Gail Croll, who passed away following her courageous battle with a brain tumour.

His 10,000 ft charity tribute raised £2,872.50 for cancer charity Maggie’s Dundee, and included a £1,000 donation from the firm.

Mr Souter, said: “Gail was a lovely caring person, extremely well-liked by the rest of the team, and I wanted to do something in her memory to raise money for a charity that would be important for her family.

“I decided a skydive would be something out my comfort zone to generate funds for a good cause, and choosing Maggie’s Dundee felt like the right way to honour Gail.

“Johnston Carmichael’s contribution through the JC Impact Fund showed how much they value supporting the causes that matter most to their people.”

The dad-of-two carried out the skydive in, Fife, last year as he was cheered on by wife Gillian, and two sons.

Launched ahead of the firm’s 90th anniversary in February this year, the Impact Fund has been inspiring colleagues to help on a wide range of fundraising projects.

These include a group of young hockey players from Moray and Aviemore receiving funding to travel to Sweden for an intensive training camp led by international and NHL coaches, helping to build confidence, resilience, and lifelong memories for the team. The firm provided travel funds for members of the team who otherwise may have been unable to make the trip.

Other initiatives supported include the RSABI Great Scone Palace Challenge, where colleagues raised £1,455 for Scotland’s agricultural industry, and the Baxter’s 10k Team Challenge in Inverness, which raised nearly £1,000 for DEBRA.

The fund has also supported the National Youth Choir of Scotland’s bursary scheme and grassroots charity Kick Mental Health, helping more young people access music and sport while strengthening community connections.

Emily Young, chief marketing officer at Johnston Carmichael, and member of the JC Impact Fund Committee, said: “At Johnston Carmichael, we believe true impact goes beyond the office - it’s about the communities we live and work in, and the causes that matter most to us.

“The JC Impact Fund gives our people the chance to support charitable and community projects that matter to them. Sometimes those causes just need a small boost to reach a fundraising target or help a community group achieve its goal. Our commitment to communities has been a steady focus over the years, and it is a key part of our strategy. This dedicated fund is the next step in that journey.

“The range of applications and the stories behind them show the passion our people have for the causes they support. We want to keep backing the projects that matter to our people in the months and years ahead by giving those that need it a little boost through the JC Impact Fund.”
