KPMG has scrapped the early-Friday-finish perk it introduced for UK staff during the pandemic, becoming the latest large firm to roll back Covid-era benefits.
The scheme, launched in 2021, allowed employees to take two and a half hours off each week through to the end of August to support wellbeing. It has now been withdrawn for the coming summer for the first time.
A KPMG UK spokesperson said the firm reviews its summer “jump start” programme annually to account for market conditions and business needs.
The move comes as larger employers increasingly strip back post-pandemic perks in pursuit of greater productivity.
KPMG’s closest rival, PwC, is retaining its equivalent scheme. The firm confirmed it will again allow staff to condense their working week and finish at lunchtime on Fridays from 20 July to 28 August, though the window has been trimmed from an initial twelve weeks in 2022 to six.
