Edinburgh-based luxury accommodation pod manufacturer Armadilla is set to increase production by 120 % with a move into a new factory following a year of exceptional growth.

Previously based in Rosewell and Bonnyrigg, the company has just acquired a 42,000 square feet production facility in Dalkeith, on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Equipped with state-of-the-art appliances and a lean manufacturing design, the new premises will allow Armadilla to tailor their working space to the business needs and propel the company’s production capacity to new heights.

Known for its iconic pod design which is loved by Hotels, Resorts and Estates around the UK, the factory move comes on the back of significant business growth. Large projects in both the UK and Europe are currently being produced in the new factory, including 22 units for the Lost Shore Surf Resort opening later this year and 6 pods at Juicy Oasis in Portugal, adding to the 51 units already installed by Armadilla. Armadilla has also recently launched larger accommodation units requiring a significantly larger space for their manufacture.

Ross Hunter, Armadilla managing director, said: “Our old factory presented several layout restrictions. Here we have a blank canvas, so we have placed every piece of machinery in the right place to increase production effectively and fulfil our growing order book.

“These larger premises have allowed us to introduce new large products that fulfil the demands of the hospitality market. Besides, Midlothian is blessed with a vibrant and skilled population that has allowed Armadilla to grow.”

Thanks to a cutting-edge rolling production line and a streamlined manufacturing system, Armadilla aims to set up a seamless workflow, reducing waste and maximising production output. Likewise, the company aspires to integrate into Mayfield’s community by creating new employment opportunities and contributing to the local economy. And with over 20 new jobs created in the last six months alone, the future for the business, factory and wider community is bright.

Recently bought by Hoffbauer Holding Limited, Armadilla’s acquisition emerges as a strategic investment poised for success, as the pod manufacturer has already secured more lucrative projects within the UK and abroad.
