The Scottish Chambers of Commerce (SCC) and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at deepening economic cooperation, strengthening trade and investment relations, and enhancing business‑to‑business partnerships between Scotland and India.

Charandeep Singh BEM, chief executive, Scottish Chambers of Commerce, said: “Scotland and India share a long‑standing and deeply rooted relationship, strengthened by our people‑to‑people connections and a dynamic Indian diaspora that continues to enrich Scotland’s economy and society.

“This MoU marks a practical step to maximise the opportunities from the UK-India Free Trade Agreement with a focus on opening new opportunities for businesses across both nations.

“We look forward to working closely with FICCI to build stronger commercial bridges, and support companies to grow, innovate, and thrive.

“I am thankful to FICCI for hosting me and for the chance to experience India’s dynamism firsthand.”

Building on the strong historic and cultural connections between both nations, the agreement marks a significant step forward in advancing bilateral opportunities across key sectors, fostering innovation, and driving sustainable economic growth.

The partnership will enable both organisations to support businesses, facilitate trade missions, and promote greater engagement between industry leaders in Scotland and India.

The agreement was signed during a Scottish Chambers of Commerce trade visit to India, where Mr Singh will also meet with the UK India Business Council, Confederation of Indian Industry, Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India, and the Indian Malt Whisky Association, to strengthen commercial ties between Scotland and India.

Jyoti Vij, director general, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry, said: “FICCI is delighted to formalise this partnership with the Scottish Chambers of Commerce. India and Scotland have complementary strengths across technology, renewable energy, education, life sciences, tourism, and advanced manufacturing.

“Through this MoU, we aim to create a robust platform for collaboration, enabling our businesses to forge new connections, expand globally, and contribute to shared prosperity. We look forward to working with the Scottish Chambers of Commerce to deliver tangible outcomes that benefit both economies.”

The Scottish Government’s Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Gaelic, Kate Forbes, said: “Scottish Chambers are one of our most trusted partners and through our International Trade Partnership they have a proven track record of making vital connections in key global markets and delivering significant outcomes for Scotland and Scottish businesses.

“India is a priority trading market as identified by our export growth plan and the signing of this MoU between Scottish Chambers and FICCI will play a key role in supporting how we progress to understand and realise the mutually beneficial opportunities Scotland and India have to offer each other.”

Businesses interested in exploring opportunities in India will have the chance to do so later this year, as the Scottish Chambers of Commerce leads a Business Mission to India in Autumn 2026.
