Social Investment Scotland strengthens investment team to support expansion plans
Chris Jamieson and Louisa Shanks
Responsible finance provider Social Investment Scotland (SIS) has appointed Chris Jamieson to the newly created role of head of investment partnerships, while welcoming Louisa Shanks as investment manager, as the organisation continues to expand its reach and diversify its investor base.
Mr Jamieson, who joined SIS in 2016, takes on the strategic role to lead the development and management of investment partnerships that will drive the organisation’s growth. His responsibilities will include securing new co-investment opportunities, building relationships with existing and new investors, and leading the implementation of new funds aligned with the SIS strategy and action plan.
The new role reflects SIS’s strategic intention to further diversify its investor base and develop enhanced investor relations activity alongside new fund development. Mr Jamieson will work closely with CEO Alastair Davis and the leadership team to support discussions with potential funders and investors, as well as leading activity focused on increasing the flow of capital into the social investment marketplace, particularly in Scotland.
Joining Mr Jamieson in strengthening the investment team is Ms Shanks, who brings extensive experience in social investment and programme management. Most recently, Ms Shanks worked as a freelance Programme Consultant with Nesta Challenge Works, managing the delivery of multi-partner innovation funding programmes. Prior to this, she held the post of social investment associate at Arts & Culture Finance (now Figurative), where she conducted due diligence on UK arts and culture organisations.
Ms Shanks’ background also includes roles as operations manager at Arts & Culture Finance and assistant programme manager in Nesta’s Challenge Works team, where she designed and implemented assessment processes for grant programmes and developed theories of change and impact frameworks.
Commenting on the appointments, Alastair Davis, CEO of Social Investment Scotland, said: “As SIS marks its 25th anniversary, the quality of our team will be pivotal to helping us achieve our ambitions.
“Chris’s new role recognises his valuable contribution to SIS and his deep understanding of the social investment landscape. Creating this dedicated role reflects our commitment to building stronger, more diverse partnerships that will help us deliver even greater impact for communities across Scotland and beyond.
“Louisa brings a wealth of relevant experience from both the social investment and innovation funding sectors. Her track record in managing portfolios and supporting organisations to access finance will be invaluable as we continue to grow our reach and impact.”
Mr Jamieson added: “There’s a real opportunity right now to bring more diverse capital into social investment. We’re seeing growing interest from institutional investors who understand that financial returns and social impact aren’t mutually exclusive. This role lets me focus on building those partnerships and making sure we’re structuring funds that work for both investors and the organisations we support.”
Ms Shanks said: “What drew me to SIS was the breadth of its service and product offering. It’s not just about funding for customers, it’s about understanding what different organisations actually need to grow sustainably.
“My time at Arts & Culture Finance showed me how powerful patient capital can be when it’s combined with genuine sector knowledge, and I’m looking forward to bringing that approach to a wider range of social enterprises and community organisations.”
