Justin Stead
Walker’s Shortbread has appointed Justin Stead as its new chair, with his role set to officially begin on 22 October.
Succeeding Bob Brannan, who held the position for the previous seven years, Mr Stead will be only the third person to hold the position in the company’s 127-year history.
Nicky Walker, managing director of Walker’s Shortbread, said: “Following an extensive recruitment process, I am delighted to welcome Justin Stead as the new chair of Walker’s Shortbread.
“Justin brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the role, having built an impressive career across global brands. His strategic insight and commitment to excellence will be invaluable as we continue to grow and evolve as a business.”
Mr Stead is currently chair of several global businesses, including Le Col and Baby Mori, and has held pivotal roles as CEO of Radley London and the Watches of Switzerland Group, where he quadrupled profits and led the business through one of the most challenging economic periods in recent history. His leadership approach, marked by clarity of vision and an ability to inspire teams, has consistently driven growth and innovation.
Beyond his business credentials, Mr Stead is the founder of the Aurelius Foundation, a community interest organisation dedicated to promoting the principles of Stoic philosophy. His global perspective – shaped by living and working in over 50 countries – and personable, motivational style make him an ideal fit to support Walker’s Shortbread in its ambitions for the future.
Founded in 1898, Walker’s Shortbread has a 127-year heritage as a family-owned producer of the finest traditional shortbread.
As Walker’s Shortbread continues to build on its legacy, Mr Stead’s leadership will help steer the company toward new opportunities while remaining true to its roots as a family business.
Mr Walker continued: “Justin’s approachable, personable nature and his professional expertise will be a tremendous asset to the business. We are confident that with his guidance we will continue to build on our strong foundations as we drive forward our ambitions for the future. The family, board, and executive team are thrilled to welcome Justin to the Walker’s Shortbread family.”
Mr Stead said: “It is a privilege to join Walker’s Shortbread, a brand steeped in heritage and synonymous with quality and excellence around the world.
“I am honoured to take on this role and look forward to collaborating with the talented team to shape the next chapter of the Walker’s story. Together, we will build upon the company’s strong legacy to deliver continued success for years to come.”
Mr Stead becomes only the third ever chair of Walker’s and succeeds Bob Brannan who held the position for the previous seven years.
