Walker’s Shortbread has appointed Bryony Walker as commercial director, joining the company’s board of directors with immediate effect.
A fourth-generation member of the Walker’s family, Ms Walker joined the company in 2013 and has since progressed through various positions, most recently being head of commercial strategy since January 2022.
Her great-grandfather, Joseph Walker, founded the company and her father, the late Sir Jim Walker, served as joint managing director.
As commercial director, she succeeds Steve McCarney, who will transition to a part-time role while remaining a director.
Managing director Nicky Walker said: “We are delighted to welcome Bryony onto the board and into the role of commercial director.
“Bryony brings a deep understanding of our family dynamic, our customers, the Walker’s brand and the challenges involved in the role.
“Bryony’s fresh perspective in conjunction with the strong foundations already in place, will ensure commercial continuity for the business.”
He added: “We are also delighted Steve will continue to be an active member of the board, as well as continuing to support Bryony.
“His dedication and his commercial expertise over the past seven years has been pivotal in aiding our successful brand relaunch and helping realise our growth aspirations.
“I look forward to continuing to engage with Steve in his new role at both board level and on specified commercial projects.”
Ms Walker said: “Since joining the family business over a decade ago I have spent time understanding the intricacies of the business, our customers and the environment we operate it.
“I have enjoyed working closely with Steve with his support and leadership, and I am excited to be taking over from him as commercial director.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge as we build on the great work Steve has achieved, and to play a role in the next chapter of Walker’s following on from my father.”
In another leadership change, the company’s chairman Bob Brannan concluded his term at the recent AGM.
“Bob’s tenure with the company proved to be one of great transition and we are extremely grateful for the insight, dedication and drive Bob brought to the company,” Mr Walker said.
“Bob leaves with our heartfelt thanks and we wish him the very best luck in whatever his next steps may be.”
