CT guide highlights Scottish parties’ pre-election tax policies

CT has issued a new guide highlighting the main political parties’ tax policies in advance of the forthcoming Scottish Parliamentary elections.

With an ever-increasing tax gap emerging between Scotland and the rest of the UK, the firm has analysed each party’s manifesto to show how the election result could affect voters north of the border after next Thursday’s vote.

The guide looks at key tax policies of the six main political parties – Conservative, Green, Labour, Liberal Democrat, Reform and SNP – which are in the running at this year’s Holyrood elections.

With a strong focus on what the outcome will deliver in terms of its impact on businesses as well as individual taxpayers based in Scotland, the guide provides a handy summary of each party’s key tax pledges. It gives an overview of what they are proposing in terms of income tax, property, business, and inheritance tax proposals as well as other miscellaneous tax-related policies.

Michael Jamieson, director in the CT Tax team, said: “Along with health and education, the forthcoming elections will also impact the level of taxation facing businesses and individuals in Scotland.

“While Holyrood retains only limited tax-raising powers, there is a widening tax gap between Scotland and the rest of the UK with the potential for this to increase further depending on which party or parties hold power after the votes are counted.

“Our guide provides a helpful summary of where the parties stand on business, property and income tax. This offers an important overview for business owners and all other taxpayers in determining which party is most aligned with their personal views on these core issues.”
