Top ten most read stories of 2022

As Scottish Financial News publishes the last edition of 2022 today, we round up what has caught the attention of our readers over the last 12 months.

Our most-read story of 2022 announced the launch of a recruitment agency dedicated entirely to the football industry by two Glasgow-business men. Football agent and recruitment specialist, Stewart Macgregor, and professional youth coach, Piero Carrino, partnered to form Football Careers Ltd.

Coming in second, our readers were also interested by the announcement of KPMG’s appointment of six new Scottish partners and 96 other promotions in October.



Our third most-read story, was Nationwide’s interest rate boost to its FlexDirect current account marking a shift from the low interest rates of the past decade.

Next up at four, readers were captivated by Ardbeg’s decision to purchase The Islay Hotel, located need the whisky distillery, deepening its commitment to its Scottish island home.

In fifth place, was the news of 16 promotions at Johnston Carmichael, consisting of eight new partner promotions and eight director level promotions.

At sixth, readers were interested in the reveal that a 35% pay rise was given to partners at Grant Thornton in 2021, according to the firm’s 2021 Annual Report.

The number seven spot is taken by another KPMG appointments announcement, when 10 new director level appointments were announced just earlier this month in Scotland.

A funding announcement is at number eight, revealing that Scottish-based furniture company The Designer Rooms secured a £850,000 loan from the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Bringing up the rear at number nine, was the banning of a Glasgow pizzeria company director for eight years for not being able to explain what a £50,000 bounce back loan was used for.

And last, but certainly not least, at number ten, is the story of Tayside-based Kilmac’s move into employee ownership, putting the firm into the hands of its staff and securing 130 jobs.
